Golfnut News Hooters World Championship

Some sprinkles threatened the 14th Hooters World Championship but the winds blew in sunny skies and everyone finished dry. An outstanding performance by the Pepperidge Farm connection of Benny Hayes and Barry O'Neal led team with some assistance from JD and Bill posted a double digit 10 under score of 62 to snatch the title from two teams who shot 63. Four different golfers shared in closest to the pin awards: Drew Faries (3) Tony King (7) JD Dunehew (12) Billy King (17). Tony King snaked in a 70 footer on number 9 to win the longest putt award.

August 23rd Golfnut News

12 golfers teed it up on Sunday and the weather was perfect. Ryan Samp shot a 71 with birdies on 2,7,8 and 14 and took second place in the Stableford. He hit his tee shot on number 7 within a foot of the hole for closest to the pin. Rick Kirkbride played steady golf to share second place. Steve McDowell birdied number 8 to give him enough points to eke out 1st place. Benny Hayes was closest to the pin on 17. EZ Bill birdied number 6 and Tim McClintick had back to back birdies on 6 and 7.

The 14th Hooters World Championship takes place this week at Kellogg GC starting at 8:34. Five teams will compete for the title. There will be awards for the winner and runner up as well as closest to the pin and longest  putt. Special thanks to Hooters and Pepperidge Farms who make this event extra special.

Golfnut News August 16th

10 golfers teed it up on Sunday. Warm and windy conditions and tournament tee boxes made the course tough. Ryan Samp shot a 71 with 5 birdies on 2,5,8,9 and 18 and took first place in the Stableford. Tony and Tim finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. Ryan took closest to the pin on 7 and Steve McDowell squeaked out a closest to the pin on 17 over Benny and Reno. Benny made his putt for birdie. Matt Knox returned to action with the group and birdied 13. Tony King dropped one on top of his on 13 also. Reno had the only other bird on number 6. We return to action on Sunday at Kellogg starting at 8:30 am and we have 4 openings.

The 14th Hooters is August 23rd, please respond by August 15th

August 2nd Golfnut News

JD takes 1st place in the Stableford

Eight golfers teed it up on Sunday. JD Dunehew and Ryan Samp shared medalist honors with a pair of 73's. JD birdied 14 and 15 and Ryan birdied 2 and 8. JD eked out Ryan for 1st place in the Stableford. EZ Bill won another closest to the pin on # 7 and Tony King hit one tight on # 17 for closest award. We will travel to Hooters after golf this Sunday for a much needed board meeting. We have 3 tee times starting at 8:30 am and we have 3 openings.

Tim took medalist honors

The rain scared away most of the golfers but four golfnuts survived the 5 minute rain delay to play Kellogg on Sunday. Tim McClintick started his round with a chip in birdie on his way to a nice score of 80 and medalist honors. We have 3 tee times this Sunday starting at 8:30 am and we have 4 openings.

July 19th Golfnut News

 A bored meeting was held after golf with Nicole taking care of us
Drew Faries joins the Golfnuts

We had 10 golfers tee it up on Sunday under ideal conditions. Rick Kirkbride and Tony King shared medalist honors with a score of 81 but Rick took all the money with his sharpshooting iron play on 7 and 17 for closest to the pin honors and kick in birdies. He easily won 1st place in the Stableford over Fred Girardini who started his round with a birdie on 1. EZ Bill took 3rd place posting a 90. Bill Haas snaked a long birdie putt in on 16 and Tim McClintick birdied #7. Drew joined the group and we hope to see him often in the future. We have 3 tee times starting at 8 am this Sunday at Kellogg GC and we have several openings.

July 5th Golfnut News

A visit to Las Vegas produced a double eagle for Tim McClintick
Rain Rain Go Away, A prayer Board Meeting is scheduled for July 5th

Tim, Benny and Tony traveled to Las Vegas for a Nevada golf trip with Golfnut George Lange. On Wednesday at the Legacy GC, Tim McClintick holed his second shot on hole number 5 par 5 from 194 yards out with a 4 iron for a rare 2 on a par 5.
With Kellogg closed eight golfers travelled to Oak Run where carts were available for a round of Sunday golf. Tony, Reno and Steve McDowell tied for 1st place in the Stableford. There are 6 par threes at Oak Run and EZ Bill, Tim McClintick, Reno, Steve McDowell and Tony (2) shared the greenie pot. We return to Kellogg GC this Sunday starting at 8:10 am for golf and we have 2 openings.

2015 Hooters World Championship will be August 16th

For the second week in a row the Golfnuts have been rained out. We will try again next Sunday starting at 8 am and we have several openings.

Kellogg is closed to the public on June 28th so no tee times needed next week

June 14th Golfnut News

EZ Bill turns 86 on June 2nd

Benny was white hot on Sunday shooting a 79

Nine golfers braved the wintry May conditions of Kellogg GC. Benny Hayes shot a 79 with birdies on 6 and 14 to take first place in the Stableford. JD Dunehew posted a nice round of 76 with birdies on 6 and 15 for medalist. Jeff Pulfer returned to action for the first time in several years and shot a 90 with a chip in birdie on hole 11. Tim McClintick 3, Steve McDowell 10. Barry O'Neal 16 had birdies. Tony King stuck one close on 17 and no one hit the green on 7 under windy and cold conditions.

May 31st Golfnut News

J D Dunehew was white hot on Sunday

The skies threatened rain but it stayed dry for the eight golfers who teed it up on Sunday. JD Dunehew shot a 75 with six birdies ( 5,7,8,10,13 and 16). He chipped in on 13 and 16 and sizzled with the putter to take first place in the Stableford. Doyle Collins shot a 37 on the front to help him take second place. Tony King stuck his tee shot on #7 to get closest and made the putt for the only other birdie. Steve McDowell won closest on 17. We have 3 tee times starting at 8 am next Sunday and we are full.

20 golfers traveled to Eagle Ridge Resort in Galena Illinois for our annual golf outing. The weather cooperated with us and kept us dry but the winds tried to blow us off the hills of Galena. It didn't keep us from having a good time. There were several highlights and some very good golf. The shot of the trip was JD Dunehew's eagle 2 on the tough number 17 at the General from 120 yards. Special thanks to Barry and Benny for all of the Pepperidge Farm treats and as always the Master of Coin. We will return to Kellogg GC on Sunday at 8:20 am and we have 3 openings

May 17th Golfnut News

The Annual visit to Eagle Ridge begins on Sunday

Seven golfers teed off on Sunday morning under cloudy skies. A few minutes of rain dampened play on the front nine but the sky cleared and we finished under dry conditions. Steve McDowell opened his round with a birdie on his way to a 78 for medalist honors and first place in the Stableford. Tim McClintick finished strong with a birdie on 18 and took second place. Benny Hayes (7) and Tony King (17) were closest to the pin but both missed their birdie tries. We travel to Eagle Ridge Resort on Sunday May 17th for 3 days of the best golf on the planet. We will return to Kellogg on May 24th.

May 3rd Kellogg Golfnut News

Nicole took good care of us at Hooters

10 golfers teed it up on a windy Sunday. Jeff Holmgaard and Tony King tied for 1st place in the Stableford. Jeff shot an impressive 74 with four birdies on 1,2,10 and 18. Benny Hayes had bookend birdies on 1 and 18. Barry O'Neal birdied 13, Steve McDowell started his round with a kick in birdie on 1, Mark Issicpoulus birdied 8 and Tony knocked in a long putt on 17 for a birdie. Closest to the pin honors went to Steve McDowell on 3 and 12, Doyle Collins on 7 and Barry O'Neal stuck one close on 17. Several golfers headed to Hooters after golf. We have 3 tee times starting at 8:30 am on Sunday at Kellogg and we have 3 openings.

April 26th Kellogg Golfnut News

Barry birdied 18 to win the Stableford
A prayer meeting is schedule for Hooters immediately following golf
 
Nine golfers teed it up on Sunday. A frost delay, cool temperatures and windy conditions were a few of the elements to overcome on Sunday. We will have a "prayer luncheon" at Hooters after golf to pray for better weather. Hooters is the official dining site for the Kellogg Golfnuts. Barry O'Neal played great golf and birdied number 18 to eke out 3 other golfers for 1st place in the Stableford competition. Benny Hayes, Reno and JD split second place money. Ryan Samp posted birdies on 4 & 15 on his way to a 78 for medalist honors. Steve McDowell snaked in a putt on 17 for birdie. Reno birdied 15 and Benny birdied 14 to help them place in the Stableford. We have 3 tee times starting at 8:40 am and we have 2 openings.

JD took medalist honors with a 78
Eagle Ridge trip is May 17th get out and tune up your game
Eight golfers teed it up on Sunday under cloudy skies but the rain stayed away until we finished. JD Dunehew sizzled on the back nine with an even par 36 and birdied number 15 & 17 to take medalist honors and first place in the Stableford. He also took the closest to the pin on 7 & 17. Bill Haas shot a respectable 88 and shared the first place prize. Rick Kirkbride posted a birdie on 13, Tony King birdied 6 and Tim McClintick ran a lengthy putt in on 9 for a bird. We have tee times next Sunday starting at 8:45 am at Kellogg and we have no openings.

11 golfers teed it up on a cool windy opening day. All golfers struggled with the windy conditions but Joe Wenzel and Mickey Winkler managed birdies on # 17 and Bill Haas birdied number 9. Mickey took 2 greenies, JD and Joe cashed in on the other par threes. We will start playing Stableford scoring next week. We have 3 tee times at Kellogg starting at 9 am and we have 2 openings.
